IMHO, the value of social networks increase by who is in the networks and their relevance to your centers of interest ... and by how active they are. And this gets to the question of "what's in it for me". In fact, there' nothing in it for you if you don't give of yourself. In other words, the more you give, the more you get. Give a gift to someone and expect to receive something in return, in time, from someone else.
